Vlora Marina: The First Project in Albania to Receive EDGE Certification in the Design Stage
Green Building, a sustainable lifestyle and community
Vlora Marina, a project set to be developed in the center of Vlora, is the first initiative evaluated by the IFC (International Finance Corporation) and the World Bank Group to receive EDGE Design Stage certification for a residential complex in a mixed urban format. EDGE, which stands for Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies, is a global certification system that promotes environmental sustainability and recognizes buildings as “Green Buildings.” This certification is awarded both at the design stage and upon project completion. The Vlora Marina project has been assessed for its energy efficiency, water conservation efforts, and the use of materials that help reduce carbon emissions. Project manager Flori Durmishi emphasizes the significance of this certification for both the residents and the city of Vlora.
Through this certification, Vlora Marina has demonstrated its commitment to delivering a project that meets international standards with innovative design and construction. Achieving this certification at the initial stage of the project is a remarkable recognition for Vlora Marina, awarded by the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, through Sintali, an accredited company that evaluates environmental performance, sustainability, and the implementation of eco-friendly practices in construction projects. Sintali analyzes the efficiency of systems such as electricity, water, ventilation, and thermal insulation, as well as the materials used in construction, based on several criteria. Vlora Marina has been rated Level 1 for 114 apartment models, achieving a 24% reduction in electricity consumption, a 33% reduction in water usage, and a 42% decrease in carbon emissions,” Durmishi noted. According to Mr. Durmishi, these parameters and the certification indicate a commitment to creating a sustainable and environmentally friendly community and lifestyle within the building, providing benefits for both the buyers and the city.
